My name is Petar, i am new in HAM world and i am having problem with my Kenwood TS-870s. Here is the story.
My friend gave me homemade intefrace for FT-8 that works with his TS-850 and Windows 7, but when i connect it with my computer it doesnt work fully. I have tried both, using it directly via seriall port, and via usb to seriall adapter, and via separate CAT interface but with no success.
When i connect my rig to Ham radio Deluxe, i am able to control i fully, when i use that same CAT to control and operate via JTDX client, i am able to get readings from interface etc. I have tried all modes None / USB, PSK.
But when i hit TUNE button i dont get any readings of output on radio, and radio is triggered by cat into TX. When i plugin my headphone to audio out on my soundcard i hear constant beep, but for some reason my rig is not detecting it via power and alc meter.
Am i using some version that has bugs? I havent been able to look for any other except newest one. Also heard some of you friends talking about some Hamlib.
Can you please advise me and tell me what i am doing wrong? I have tried with PK.IN, PK.OUT etc, but i am missing something. Is there anything in menu or secret menu that needs to be changed in order for it to work? Can you send me download links for some other version of JTDX and explain me how to set that Hamlib if that is a problem.
Thank you in advance 73 DE YU4DMR

Hello Petar, as you say, audio is coming out of your PC, JTDX software should be OK. There are no known 'bugs' in JTDX. Hamlib is just responsible for controling frequncy and TX//RX control. Hamlib is just control, nothing to do with audio. How is your PC connected to your audio interface and further on - how is your audio interface connected to your TS-870 What settings in the TS-870 do you need, to use the external audio input instead of a mic ? (see manual 'Menu Configuration'). Your audio out, from TS-870 to PC is on ACC2 pin 3 and audio from PC to the TS-870 goes to pin 11 of the ACC2.See manual, page 41 (english version) about
'ERROR-CHECKING MODES, as it is called in the manual. This is the same settings as FT4/FT8.
That's what I found in the manual of my TS-870, in my backup library. I do not own a TS-870 anymore... 73's de OE1MWW Wolfgang P.S. a link, maybe of help: cq.sk/en/ako-som-rozbehal-ft8/

Hamlib does control audio routing on some rigs -- ergo the Front/Rear selectors. But not the TS-870....it just has a simple PTT on/off.
The TS-870 will have audio on Pin 3 and Pin 11 of ACC2. This is same as the TS-850 so should not require any changes in the interface you have. Pin3 -> audio -> computer sound device Record -> WSJTX Input WSJTX Output -> computer sound device Playback -> audio -> Pin 11 Menu 21 PKT.OUT will control the level on Pin 3.
