Recently, while trying to determine where a DXpedition was operating on FT8, I set my frequency to 28084, only to have the frequency box turn red. It is red anywhere from 28084.0 to 28085.0. Why?

If we tune to a frequency that is not registered in the Settings frequency field, I see the frequency box in red. I think that is all.

File/Settings -- go to the Frequencies tab. Right-click in the list and "Insert".

Precise answer is, Frequency is displayed red when it is outside of defined frequency list ( for this band and mode) more than 9999 Hz.
