Hello all,
I just joined the group and not sure if this has already been mentioned, but I happen to experience a sort of 'hick-up' when I use JTDX in combination with my TS-590SG. After a second or so into TX the ALC kicks in and the power is briefly reduced. It is OK again after 1 or 2 seconds. But this phenomenon is audible so it might have its effect in getting my signals out. It only happens with my Kenwood (other rigs: Yaesu FT-991A and QRPLabs QDX) which does not show this behaviour with other software (like WSJT-X and JS8Call). The power output makes no difference - it happens at 100 Watts as well as at 5 Watts. My default power is approx. 25 Watts.
Has anyone experienced the same and, if so, what can be done to remediate this?
Thanks for any advice, remediation, tips or whatever might be of help.
73,
Ramon, PE1OUW

Thanks for your input, Mike. Both settings for USB In/USB out are 100% identical (Menu settings are 71 and 72 on the SG) but I am not sure what you mean by the -12 setting. I think this refers to the level for USB Speakers out?

It's the Windows Playback level on the audio device. First thing it so turn down the USB In/Out levels. You start with the Playback and Recording devices at 0dB (right-click Level slider and choose dB). Then turn down USB In until you can't turn it down anymore without losing audio altogether. If that still doesn't limit the ALC action you have to adjust the Windows Playback level down and I found -12dB worked. Then on USB out you want minimum 30dB on the WSJTX level meter on a quiet spot.

Ah, right, gotcha now, Mike. I now fully understand what you mean and frankly I already did that long long time ago with JS8Call, WSJT-X and also with JTDX. The ALC is just fine say 99% of the time. It is just that the ALC 'spikes' at the beginning of the transmission for a tiny fraction of a second. It's not that it is at a higher level all the time during the transmission. You can hear a 'bop' in the audio when the spike is there and the power output is reduced for a fraction of a second as well. I simply have no explanation for it as it doesn't occur with my other rigs in combination with JTDX. Nor does it occur with the TS-590SG and other digi mode software.
We keep searching...
Thanks!
